Just wondering: What’s this sudden pregnancy stuff popping up all over the PMD-E circle of tumblr? Someone please get me back on track! DX

I’d like to know aswell… anyone?

PK got some asks about it and said she didn’t think pregnancy would make a good story…

I had no idea it got this big and messy. Ugh, I kind of feel like with the new arc starting, the admins should come together and figure out what stuff is allowed and what isn’t. First albinism, then glasses, now this. They really need to get together and make things clearer.

They’re dealing with issues as they come up, which I think is understandable. I don’t think any of the staff members have run a group like this before, so I don’t think they could have predicted all this trouble over seemingly trivial things. I certainly wouldn’t have. “No drastic color changes” and “the Pokemon show so far has only shown Pokemon laying eggs so we’re gonna stick with that” seems pretty clear to me.

The glasses controversy they brought on themselves by changing the rules in the middle, but with the rest I think they’re doing the best they can.

Actually, if you see the less good areas of Pokemon OCs you’ll find out that alternate colors are common (I’ve seen some of the most ridiculous stuff in the Eevee fanclub on deviantART) as well as doing odd things with anatomy and markings to make an OC stand out more.

But yeah, they’re new to running a group and this one is growing pretty rapidly, so it’s hard to keep track of all the member’s actions.

Oh, I know that people lovelovelove changing the color of their Pokemon OCs, almost as much as they love making all-male Pokemon sexually female and vise versa, but people should’ve read the rules, seen the “no color changes” and it’s kind of… that simple. It was easy to uphold too, until people started trying to bring in non-Pokemon genetics as excuses. :P But that got crushed too, so whatever.

I think it would be awesome if people realized it’s not the appearance that makes a character but the actual character. Appearance is one part, but it’s a much smaller portion than people like to think.

Yeah, exactly.

Wasn’t half of the albino Zorua because the owner felt the color scheme was so important to the character and it wouldn’t be the same if the character was shiny? It’s ridiculous (especially since most of the “albinos” weren’t using it properly- all white, not white with red/pink accents).

Her Zorua was leucistic, not albino, and she was technically doing it properly. Leucism does retain some color, sometimes red (which this Zorua had), and sometimes a few of the natural color markings of the animal. I did see other people doing what you described though, just flushing their Pokemon with white and calling it albinism and not caring that there’s more to the anomaly than a white coloration.

I don’t remember a whole lot of the debate there, which is kind of bad since I did get involved in it, but I would imagine that was a major part, since that’s generally the case with all color changes. Although I personally feel that even saying that it’s important to the character is very often just an excuse and people really just want to make their character different. I would basically use the same argument here as I would with applying accents to characters- people want it because it’s cool, and they say it’s part of the character so they can keep it, but not to necessarily make it make sense.

Pregnancy in PMDe I’m seeing as another case of “I think I have a cool idea that I want to just make happen regardless of how little sense is makes”. Going around flaunting your pregnant Pokemon will attract attention and make your Pokemon stand out just like recolors do, and just like recolors, the attention it draws will likely not be good in the long run.

I personally find it most interesting to start out with a seemingly normal character, and then let people see how they are their own person through development, rather than jumping out with a “my character is yellow even though the rest of its species is purple so it’s special”, but to each their own, I suppose. If you start out with a unique character, it’s a constant fight to normalize them. Starting normal and building to unique is a much more natural way to progress for me, and I think it’s much more realistic too, since that’s generally how getting to know people in the real world works. :P

I didn’t know that. Most of the information I got about it was from the owner talking with Treble n’ Bass’s owner about it. I was still kinda new when that happened.

I know, I don’t really see why special looks=special character. My PMD characters essentially got an accessory or two to mark them as mine in a way (kinda necessary, since I think I picked some of the more popular species) and Ice and Nella picked up their own battle injuries that will stick around for a while.

Yeah, you’ve kept your characters simple and I really enjoy them. Pretty-much all the characters I enjoy are pretty simple. Pretty-much all the popular teams were pretty simple initially too- like, everyone knows Team WTC, but at first look they’re nothing but a set of normal, non-shiny, fairly common Pokemon. But obviously they’ve grown to be a lot more than that to readers, and that’s a sign of good characters.

They, along with Bandit Bros and Pechaberry, got popular because the artist focuses more on fun interactions and good stories than the team’s look. Yeah, Bandit Bros owner did a lot of stylization to make Buddy look more masculine and Amy and Chikorita are drenched in accessories, but the original focus was on personality instead of looks.

Yeah, I tend to enjoy the simpler designs too (partially because the more complex designs stop resembling Pokemon after a while and my reaction to boobs is “you want everyone attracted to woman to find that character sexy? It’s an animal”).

Yes. I don’t really have anything to add to that first part. xD

Haha, and oh geez, boobs. :I I will never understand boobs on Pokemon. People can say it’s because their Pokemon is a mammal, but even mammals don’t normally grow boobs. Humans are special that way. Pokemon are not humans. I think everyone can agree on that.

I feel like boobs are a stylistic thing for some people, like I think that’s how DJTC just draws stuff normally so adding boobs isn’t a huge thing because I don’t want to mess with style (I may not like the look, but how a person draws is not my business), but then people start adding boobs just for the boobs? No. Please no.
